Sampanan Falls: A World of Endless Wonder

Sampanan Falls in Brgy Pinaopawan, Igbaras, Iloilo, has gained quite a bit of popularity recently. However, for those who have had the chance to visit this place, they might recognize the photo I took back in 2014. This particular spot is located near Sampanan Falls and can be considered a part of the larger network of waterfalls that Sampanan offers. Sometimes, beauty can be found all around us, and it’s a matter of appreciating the hidden gems that nature has to offer. If you’re seeking an affordable and genuine natural experience, Sampanan Falls is an ideal destination. There are no entrance fees or costs for hotel accommodations, so you can bring your camping gear, food, tents, and a well-charged camera. However, it’s important to note that there’s no electricity in the area, so preparing your power needs is crucial. Nearby locals are willing to assist with charging, which is just a short walk away. For those planning an overnight stay, having one or two local companions can be beneficial, ensuring that you have the support you might need in this remote area. Just make sure you come well-prepared, as there are no convenience stores nearby.

To get to Sampanan Falls, you’ll embark on a scenic one-hour land journey from Iloilo City to Igbaras town proper, with an affordable fare of approximately fifty pesos via a public utility jeepney (PUJ). From there, a thirty-minute motorcycle ride, costing around forty pesos, will take you to Brgy. Pinaopawan. Afterward, a 20-30 minute walk will lead you to the waterfall itself, but you can easily find a friendly local who can serve as your guide, making the journey even more enjoyable and accessible.
